“Being human will always matter....
So while I'll continue using AI tools to amplify my work, my big bet is on people. On the value of connection, judgement, and shared experience."

Hi Reader
Was May good to you?
Mine was full of creative sparks. From judging the local BIBAs business awards, and soaking up inspiration at the RSA Fellows Festival and the Northern Design Festival, to hiking the Lake District fells (in the rain).
I’ve also been mulling over the AI conversation. I'm trying to make sense of how to use it well without letting it dull my thinking, drain the planet, or speed me into burnout and overwhelm.
Feeling it too?
I’m learning to sit with the tension - the micro and macro, the pros and cons - and to stay informed enough to make conscious choices each time I use it.
One small thing I’m doing? Adding “crafted by Mich, not AI” where relevant. Just so you know when I'm being fully human.
Full disclaimer - I write my newsletters from scratch, then use AI to help refine in edit phase, as I'm quite wordy!
This edition of 3-2-1 is coming at you in reverse, i.e 1-2-3 style… and yes, we’re leaning into the AI theme. 😄
Let's go!

One Action
What's Your Sentence?
What do you want to be known for? What really matters to you?
Dan Pink says, “A great leader is a sentence.” They don’t try to do everything, just a few big things, done well.
At their core, they’re defined by a single idea or contribution.
Here’s one I’m playing with:
“She championed ideas and people creating positive change, to help make our work more sustainable and our lives more meaningful.”
What’s yours?

Two Thoughts
1 - Try a "Both, And" AI Approach
Justin Welsh says the winners of the next decade won’t be those who rely entirely on AI, or those who reject it outright. It’s BOTH building real relationships AND using AI thoughtfully.
His advice: Focus on depth, not scale. It's like your "one sentence". Keep it simple. (Bonus: ask yourself his questions to help you find "your human edge").
2 - Think Beyond the Screen
Ryan Levesque's video with 5 interesting lessons for how to build a meaningful business in the AI era will make you think.
What stuck for me? Think analog, try quieter channels, and most importantly, lead with "heart, humour and humanity".

Three Resources
1 - The Erosion of Workplace Satisfaction
“Quiet Cracking” is on the rise - disengagement caused by heavy workloads, job insecurity, and burnout. It’s not just a wellbeing issue. It’s also impacting creativity, trust, and retention.(Hat tip: Kelly Berry)
2 - The Benefits of Rethinking Work
Five years into a formalised 4-day workweek, Iceland reports not only steady productivity, but big gains in gender equality, wellbeing, and overall happiness for 90% of its population. Result!
3 - The Carbon Footprint of Chat GPT
If you’ve felt uneasy using AI tools too often, you’re not alone. The good news? According to a climate-conscious data scientist, for simple tasks (like single searches or short outputs), the carbon impact is lower than we might assume.

Final Thoughts
June is a good time to assess your workflow for the rest of the year.
- Are you ahead or behind of your master plan and goals?
- What needs tweaking now, so that you can stay on course before (and after) the summer slow down?
Small changes now help you maintain your momentum over the long haul.
With courage, curiosity and cadence,
Mich x
