Cadence 91 - Your Compass For Flexibly Navigating Change

Issue #91

Cadence - Life & Work in Motion

A strategy isn’t a map — it’s a compass.
Strategy is a better plan. It’s the hard work of choosing what to do today to make tomorrow better.
This is the point. This is at the heart of our work and the challenge of our days.
Towards better.
~ Seth Godin

Hi Reader

Change is everywhere—some welcome, some not so much.

Wherever you are, I hope you’re doing okay?

As the Stoics remind us, the only way forward is through, and having an inner compass helps us navigate uncertainty.

To thrive in changeable times, we need strategies that balance consistency, flexibility, and adaptability.

For me, this means focusing on my core values — love, curiosity, cadence, and connection — and having an intentional approach to my creativity, productivity and wellbeing.

As I navigate change in my business, including new products and podcast themes, I return to what matters most to recalibrate and sustain momentum.

When the world feels tough to be in, lean into what grounds you—it’s your guide to moving forward.

On to this month's edition.

Three Resources

1 - Productivity Made Simple

It’s not about the software you use or how many tasks completed; it’s about approaching your productivity with intentionality. Tim Ferriss shares three productivity techniques to create big outcomes despite the endless distractions that plague us. These simple routines are ones I also use often — powerful, practical, and effective!

2 - Rethinking Remote Work

Many companies push RTO (return to the office), arguing remote work harms innovation and productivity. But Pinterest’s flexible work policy has shown real gains in productivity, collaboration, and employee wellbeing, attracting diverse talent along the way. Their Chief People Officer shares a compelling argument backed up by data from their 4000-strong team.

(Listen for more on this in Episode 70 of the Creating Cadence Podcast)

3 - "Procrastiworking"

If you’re struggling with procrastination, remember it’s more about managing and regulating our mood and emotions than relying on our willpower. I wrote a whole chapter on this in The Cadence Effect, and this Fast Company article on why we procrastinate offers some quick, helpful workarounds to try.

Two Thoughts

The future of work is all about flexibility. So, how do we prepare?

1 - Future-Proofing Skills

Being future-ready means more than just having technical know-how. The future of work requires resilience, adaptability, and emotional intelligence — skills that go beyond tech training. Building these “soft” skills helps to keep teams agile and flexible.

2 - Leading with Intention

Leaders come in many forms, including you and me. Leaders at all levels can set the example by modelling values that support flexibility, sustainability and wellbeing. Use your voice and your actions to influence work cultures to thrive with adaptability and purpose.

One Action

Create the Spark that Ignites Excitement for Change

Consider ways to inspire your team, clients, or business community to join you in adopting more sustainable working practices. Making the journey inviting (like a fun adventure), tempts others to want to follow.

What's one little thing you can (and will) do to create the spark?
